Fall 2025 - This class is set up where the professor does not teach the class, your TA does. My TA was Camila Lee and she was the best. I highly recommend her if you can get into her class TAKE IT. I will say though I have heard the other TA's are all really great as well. Another TA (I forgot his name) subbed for us one day as well and he was also great. This class uses VHL and that's where you do all of the learning and then class time is mostly just spent for speaking with each other and listening, at least with Camila. She was super nice and helpful when it came to helping us prepare for quizzes as well. We had 5 quizzes after each chapter and they were on your computer using a lockdown browser. They were super chill and easy if you pay attention and do your VHL assignments. We had 2 speaking assessments and 2 written/listening assessments which were all very doable if you pay attention as well. Overall I definitely recommend the class as it has been one of my favorite classes I've taken!

Spring 2022 - Definitely one of the harsher graders in the Spanish department. Although Spanish isn't graded on participation at UCLA anymore, when it was, she would grade very harshly. You needed to speak multiple times every class to get full marks, which is tough to do in a short class period. Written and oral exams are graded very harshly, you need to be nearly fluent to receive a perfect score. Lacking complex vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure would make you lose at least one point. Also, Spanish 1 at UCLA is not meant for beginners. We jumped in quite fast and were expected to already have knowledge on conjugations, numbers, colors, and common phrases. Be warned.
