Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Conceptualizations of time seen from scientific, philosophical, historical, and sociological perspectives; "cyclical" and "linear" time in primitive, ancient, and medieval societies; ritual, the sacred, and experience of the eternal; structuring of urban, modern, and postmodern societies by clock, calendar, and schedule; future value orientation and notion of progress; time, labor, and social domination.
