Spring 2025 - I would not recommend taking this class if you have no background in religion. The professor does not include a lot of information on his slides and I found it hard to follow along with what he was saying in class. There are assigned readings each week from two different books that use a lot of unfamiliar terminology if you don't know much about religion. There are 2 papers that you can write without the lectures. The midterm is online. The only difficult part of the class is the final worth 30% of your grade which is completely free response and consists of short essays and descriptions of important figures, places, and events. I found my discussion to be very unhelpful because my TA would just make us discuss topics with each other but didn't provide any slideshows or curriculum to help us understand the topics more and when someone would ask her a question she would ask a student to answer. I honestly never knew what was going on for the entire class and just had to find my own way to prepare for the final. Majority of the people in my discussion were passionate about Christianity and could quote the Bible from memory so I wouldn't recommend to take this class if you aren't fully interested in the topic but it is not impossible.
