PSYCH 137N
Conscious Experience: Social Cognitive Neuroscience Approach
Description: Lecture, three hours. Conscious experience is arguably the most remarkable thing in the universe, and yet it is largely ignored because it is the background precondition for everything else in our lives and because it is difficult to study scientifically. Examination of what is known and, just as importantly, what is unknown about conscious experience. P/NP or letter grading.

Fall 2025 - Prof. Lieberman is a fantastic professor. He genuinely cares about the student and is passionate about the subject. The class itself is dense & hard; the exams are fair but not easy. I loved all the materials so it was fun and informative for me, but if you do not like philosophy/neuroscience then this class would be hell. I recommend going to all the lectures in person because Prof. Lieberman only does audio recording, and if you go into the recordings without actually taking the lectures in person before, I imagine it would be a pain in the butt. There's plenty of extra credit opportunities (I think up to 7% for our class), which are easy ways to boost up the grade. There's not a lot of homework/assignments to do except for a thought journal (which is just an easy grade booster), just go to the lectures and prepare well for the exams. I also highly recommend going to Prof. Lieberman's office hours. He is very patient and nice and willing to answer questions, and is also open to having discussions about class-related materials or gradschool in general. Overall I think I learned a lot from this class and really enjoyed it. Would take again.
