Fall 2025 - I took MUSICLG 13 with Professor Schwartz this winter. I never interacted with her except through the lectures, as she never really tried to communicate with us. I will say that the homeworks and assignments were confusing and just a waste of time. Decently-made lesson videos quickly devolved into a labyrinth of links, PDFs (including her own research paper, which just felt like a random plug), and full-length movies that felt sloppy, like she'd just googled the weekly topic and copied in the first ten results. The final was fine, but I would say it felt excessive and didn't really cover the course effectively--four parts, most of which felt like they were repeating each other, and all centered around making a children's book. Didn't feel like an appropriate summation of all the complexities of punk we'd learned in the 10 weeks. Finally, the videos were decently structured, but often felt like fever dreams. A lot of times, she would just sit and play the entire song or random music videos (Jay-Z??) then give no explanation for why we had to sit through it. Sometimes she wouldn't even bother to read the slides and would just sit in silence with them. Felt like she definitely didn't care about engaging with this course.
