Description: (Formerly numbered 136.) (Same as Gender Studies M136.) Lecture, four hours; discussion, one hour. Analysis of gender ideologies in several musical cultures; representations of gender, body, and sexuality by both male and female musicians; contributions of women to Western art and popular musics; methods in feminist and gay/lesbian theory and criticism. Fall 2015 - I did not have any music background, so the concepts and technical terms were a little harder to grasp. He does, however, go over all the necessary songs in class, so make sure to take notes as they are analyzed in class. Officer hours are good to clear up confusion. Also, he releases a study guide and if you do that well, the questions are picked directly from the study guide.
