Past, Present, and Future of Standardized Testing in University of California Admissions

Description: Seminar, one hour. In wake of Varsity Blues 2019 college admissions scandal and COVID-19 pandemic, universities across country have been increasingly changing way they consider standardized testing in admissions review process. Exploration of issues of equity and access in use of SAT and ACT college entrance examinations. Discussion of history behind college entrance examinations, and review of critical literature about racial and socioeconomic disparities of standardized tests at K-12 and collegiate levels. Application of analysis to University of California's comprehensive review process for admissions and five-year plan to eliminate standardized testing. May not be applied toward Honors Collegium units, but may be applied toward lower-division Honors units. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Michelle Fausto, with Michael Suarez as faculty mentor.
