What a lady...strong, sharp, witty and elegant. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of literature assigned as well as her approach to explaining the texts. The readings were almost always short, which I personally like, because we were able to read so many different authors without falling behind. The novels were fantastic---Le Pere Goriot, Madame Bovary and the Lover were some of my favorites. Regarding tests---Madame couldn't be more helpful. She breaks down the format and includes not only page numbers for possible quote choices, but possible IDs and essays---all with choices so your work can be at its best. You do have to work fast (50 minutes) but it is definitely do-able. Madame Dufresne is academically and personally solid---no B.S. with her. I can't wait to take her again!

Winter 2021 - Professor Thomas is a great professor who really made remote learning engaging. The books he chose were super interesting and the discussions in class were always engaging. The workload was light with only one final paper and reading in order to prepare to participate in the class discussions. He was also very accommodating to covid and regularly checked up on his students. Even though the grading was 80% based on the final paper, he gave us plenty of time to do the final paper and offered office hours in order to discuss exactly what we wanted to write and as long as you talked a few times in class, you would get a 100% in participation. Overall, super interesting and easy GE and would highly recommend Professor Thomas!

I took French 60 and it was a really GE, for me at least. There are no midterms or discussion sections. You read three books. The first one is easy to read because it's entertaining. The other two are really boring. I still managed to get an A in the class without reading much of the second two because he CONSTANTLY is talking about the main ideas of the novels. So, no quizzes or midterms, no written summaries of the novels, just 2 essays for two novels (5 page maximum) and either a blue book final or another essay. Writing the essays did take work, but I managed to get A essays just by working on them everyday for a week. Just come to class and listen, even though he rambles a ton and sometimes he gets really off track. It's a pretty easy GE, especially if you're good at writing.
