Exploration of disproportionate health burden experienced by low income communities and communities of color in U.S. due to environmental hazards. Study of social, economic, and political forces that create inequitable burdens of environmental pollution. Covers theoretical frameworks and analytic tools for understanding cumulative impacts of environmental and social inequalities on health. Case studies, research, and policy debates used to explore challenges and opportunities for addressing environmental racism and advancing environmental justice. S/U or letter grading.
