Educational and Psychological Impacts of Summer Camps on Children and Adolescents

Description: Seminar, one hour. Examination of behavioral, social, and academic impact of summer camps. Exploration of potential benefits of various camps (summer, sleepaway versus day camps, specialty camps). Exploration of psychological impact on adolescent counselors and considerations of summer camp as learning loss aid. Opportunity to design an ideal summer camp (program and layout). Students share their own experiences and consider if summer camps serve as a unique learning and development environment. P/NP grading. Facilitated by Idella Smolyar, with Anne S. Blackstock Bernstein, as faculty mentor.
