Textual Criticism: Studies in Preparation of Critical Edition of Greek and/or Latin Texts

Description: Seminar, three hours. Different steps required in preparation of critical edition of ancient text: localizing manuscripts; collation; establishing stemma; selecting right reading on basis of knowledge of context, of language of author, and of sources; emendations; formulation of "apparatus criticus" and "apparatus fontium." S/U (2-unit course) or letter (4-unit course) grading.
