Description: Laboratory, eight hours; outside study, four hours. Enforced requisites: courses 101C, C125. Enforced corequisite: course 104D. Integration of molecular and engineering techniques in modern biotechnology. Cloning of protein-coding gene into plasmid, transformation of construct into "E. coli," production of gene product in bioreactor, downstream processing of bioreactor broth to purify recombinant protein, and characterization of purified protein. Letter grading.
