Winter 2025 - This is for CCAS 188: Heroes and Villains. I took this class online through Zoom. Each week, we watched a film and had light readings. The class consisted of participation points (20%), five journals (15%), a creative project (25%), and a final (40%). -The journals were 150-500 words and you could choose any five weeks out of the ten to complete them, which made it super flexible. You had to connect the film, lecture, and reading to get full points (3/3). -The creative project was the midterm. We had to pick a theme from the course and use it in any kind of creative work. You could draw, make a video, a TikTok, write a poem, make a collage, etc. All you had to do was write one paragraph explaining how it connected to the class. Everyone got full points for the project. -The final was a five-page paper. I received a great grade on mine, but I did hear from a couple of students that she graded theirs harshly. I will say that she was a little picky with the journals. I received full points for most of them but sometimes she would take off points for not discussing the connections enough which was a bit frustrating because for some of the readings, there was not much of a connection to be made or sometimes I shortened it so that I would not go over the word limit. -Participation is a must in this class, but you just need to share your thoughts in class and respond to what she calls chisme (gossip), where you share some gossip you heard or read about the person of the week. You write a couple of sentences and link the source, whether it was a TikTok, article, etc. There were 10 chismes listed, but you were only required to do five. I really enjoyed this class and would definitely take her again. Her Chicanos in Film class (M114/M117) is even better though!
