Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures
Description: Lecture, four hours; discussion, two hours; outside study, six hours. Requisite: course 135A. Beams, columns, and slabs in reinforced concrete structures. Properties of reinforced concrete materials. Design of beams and slabs for flexure, shear, anchorage of reinforcement, and deflection. Design of columns for axial force, bending, and shear. Ultimate strength design methods. Letter grading.

Winter 2021 - The way this class is structured for the quarter system makes it feel rushed at times and it would benefit a lot more under a semester system. Still, this is a very informative and valuable class for people interested in structural engineering. There is homework due every week except for week 1 and they're pretty long but the professor and TAs go over the concepts sufficiently. First midterm was a cakewalk. Second was absolutely killer and made a lot of students consider P/NP. Final was more reasonable but closer in difficulty to the second than to the first. Overall, this class isn't tricky conceptually and is very straightforward but you have to know all the nuances of the ACI318 textbook which is the hard part.

Winter 2025 - Professor Peng's assignments and practice exams take an extremely long time, usually taking my friends and I 1-2 full days to complete. She's an extremely kind professor who's puts a lot of effort towards her students. I highly recommend studying this class with a group and attending office hours. Practice exams are a must do even though they are optional because they are very similar to the midterm/final. Grading is extremely lenient on homeworks and exams.
