Proseminar: Functional Approaches to Japanese/Korean Linguistics

Description: Seminar, four hours. Preparation: three years of Japanese or Korean, one year of any East Asian language, one functional linguistics course. Survey of recent empirical and theoretical research in syntax, semantico-pragmatics, theory of language change, and comparative sociolinguistics in Japanese/Korean. May be repeated for credit with consent of instructors. S/U or letter grading.
