Fall 2023 - Professor Maciver is amazing. His online class was very interesting and his lectures are to the point. He brings in guest speakers that add to the experience. I believe this was his first year lecturing at UCLA but I recommended him to the admin to bring him back. The readings are interesting and have a lot of images. His midterm and final are pretty tough but he is always willing to help. There is homework but its pretty much to solidify what you read. Overall I highly recommend him!

Spring 2025 - Initially took the class after the low rating and high grade distribution didn't seem to match up. I will say that Neolithic Chinese art is not good for a casual enjoyer of Art History: the content we looked at was really ancient, and likely not very exciting for someone who isn't into this specific niche. However, Von Faulkenhausen is clearly an expert when it comes to ancient Chinese art, and it was a joy being able to take a class taught by someone who is so passionate about the subject. Yes, he is soft spoken and sometimes lectures felt quite long, but the workload was practically non-existent, other than 1 midterm and a 5 page final. Professor Faulkenhausen made himself available for feedback and clearly cares about student learning and success. I would 100% take a course with him again.
