If there's one advice I could give to anybody taking his class, it would be this: go for his office hours at least once a week. In fact, try to go as often as you can, because you would need as much help and explanation as you can get from him for all your assignments and tests. He's a really nice guy so going for his office hours will not be as tedious as it seems. (He gives out awesome snacks occasionally too.)

The difficulty level of his assignments ranges from very difficult to very easy so never let your guard down after a few easy questions because your next question is going to take you two days to figure out (after going for an office hour for it, of course). However, his tests are actually not very difficult considering that the questions are almost exactly the same as the practice tests that he will give beforehand (which he will go through extensively during office hours).

If you really love quantum chemistry, you will really learn a lot in his class. He shares a lot of research frontiers so that's really interesting.

Prof Lin's class is extremely hard -- much harder than it needs to be. He often lectures on irrelevant information, and I left class more confused most days. I had friends in other 20A lectures who were learning completely different information, ours being much harder.

He is incredibly difficult to understand because of his accent so be prepared to have to decipher his lectures.

He doesn't really teach, just kind of throws the information at you for you to figure out on your own. If it wasn't for the TA's I don't know how I would've gotten a B-

The material he teaches is probably harder than the other chem teachers but since he is so caring and willing to help, if you go to his office hours he will basically provide you will the info to get an A easily.

What an amazing teacher. Yeah his course was difficult but he truly put in so much time and effort to help us understand all the content. He went out of his way to make his students feel as though they were recognized as individuals, not just a number. If you're willing to put in the time to learn quantum chemistry it's possible to get an A in his class

Best professor ever! He is very passionate about what's he teaching and is also very caring for his students. He makes quantum mechanic interesting and easy to understand. Definitely recommend taking him. You will not regret it. It might be hard to understand him at first, but after awhile you will get used to it. Tip: Attend all of his office hours. Very helpful and you get good Japanese snacks too!! Not a hard class at all!!

DON'T TAKE LIN.
HE TAKES QUANTUM MECHANICS TO A COMPLETE NEW LEVEL YOU DON'T EVEN WANT TO UNDERSTAND.
YOU'LL NOT GET GET BETTER THAN A B UNLESS YOU'RE A NERD AND LIKE MEMORIZING PROOFS OF SCHRODINGER'S EQUATION.

He is a really crappy teacher. The only way to get an A in his class is to jerk him off during his office hours. He moans in such an accent that you may actually enjoy jerking him off. On a serious account, don't take him. You won't get his accent and just because he cares for his students doesn't mean he is a good teacher. He teaches fucking honors material in a normal chem 20A lecture. Even Felker's students couldn't understand our stuff.
Tl:dr : Jerk him or get a F
