Professor Dickey is, by far, my absolute favorite professor in all of UCLA (my whole college career, in fact). I had him Spring 2021 for Shakespeare 150A, and then 150C Fall 2021. He is so very kind, and his lectures are quite engaging and funny. He is really considerate and I recommend that you interact with him/talk to him; he is a great mentor and teacher. Dickey always leaves comments on your work, but they are never malicious or anxiety-inducing; he gives extremely helpful constructive criticism and compliments your writing often. (I hate when teachers don't leave feedback on my work, especially if I worked hard on whatever it is! You will not have to fret about that in Dickey's class.)

150C was such a fun class because we were given a lot of creative freedom, and Dickey encouraged us/was genuinely interested in our analyses of Shakespeare/Shakespeare offshoots. There was never a time I felt belittled or told that I was wrong: he is always welcoming to your interpretations and loves to discuss them with you. I was scared to present a project of mine initially because I did not know if it was good enough, but with his urging I ended up going first to present and did not feel as nervous (Week 2 of the quarter, and I got it out of the way!). He is really supportive! He truly loves his craft and the subject he teaches. I loved Shakespeare before, but even more now. Thank you Professor, we need more educators like you!

I'll always remember his wonderful lectures and the way he not only felt like a teacher to us, but, in a way, a hilarious and endearing grandfather figure.

This class made me pretentiously love Shakespeare. We mainly discussed the sources Shakespeare used in relation to his plays, but Prof. Dickey taught in an engaging way that helps you learn a lot. We also had presentations that were super easy, of Shakespeare references we came across in modern times. Overall this was a super cool class!

I am so glad I took Shakespeare with Professor Dickey. Initially, I was not looking forward to Shakespeare, but Professor Dickey took such a fresh approach to studying Shakespeare's texts! I always thought that Shakespeare's plays were entirely his original creation, but by taking this class, I learned that he ripped off of works of other writers for his plays (*gasp*)! Studying source materials for each Shakespeare play made each text more meaningful and illuminating.

Professor Dickey is a well-versed and encouraging instructor. He brings out the best of each Shakespeare text. He is funny without trying. He is always pleasant to his students. I really looked forward to going to this class and would definitely recommend you to take it as well!
