Course taken: Air Pollution (A&O 3)

Professor Turco is a good person. He is a good lecturer and is prepared all the time. Sometimes he does some scientific experiment in class, which you have to pay attention to as it comes out on quizzes and exams. But his textbook has a serious problem. When it comes to an environmental issue like the air pollution, I think keeping up with the most recent data is the most important thing. However, almost all of the graphs and statistics about the extent of air pollution in the atmosphere are at least 20 to 30 years old. Also many of estimated amounts and numbers and theories and hypothesis explained in the book are hardly believable. If there is one good thing about this class, it will be the high curve that professor Turco adds to your grades. I massed up some quizzes, got a C on the midterm and a B on the final, and never participated during discussions. So, I thought I would get a B or B+, but I got an A. So, I don't know if this is an easy class or not because I got bad grades on the exams even though I thought they were pretty easy. And I got a grade far higher than what I was expecting to get.

I did not take Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences 599 but my class was not listed. I took my GE cluster seminar with Professor Turco for Global Environment (M1CW). Not only was the topic interesting even though it seems extremely boring, but I got an A. All he wants you to do to earn an A is show up and do the assignments. There weren't many assignments but the final research paper (a minimum of ten pages excluding your figures and references) was very difficult because I was burnt out from my other classes by tenth week; but I completed the assignment and turned it in on time with the format he wanted and earned an A (and my paper was hardly decent). He also graded all of our research papers within a week so I don't think he reads them very thoroughly, I think he just cares if you do your work correctly. He doesn't really care if you miss class but don't miss too many or you will fall behind because there are in class "essays" (they are less than a page and generally asking your opinion about a topic) and he doesn't seem to care if you're on time or not. He is an easy A and in the syllabus, he even says you just need to do your work to earn a grade ABOVE a C, so he doesn't plan on failing any students. I would highly recommend his class. It's interesting and he is not exactly boring. I haven't taken Air Pollution with him so I can't say the other evaluations are unfair; but as a professor and sitting through three hour lectures with him every week, I think I am qualified to say he is definitely not boring. And his class isn't difficult either.
