I took this class with the lab, too, to fill my science with lab requirement and that was a great decision! The lab wasn't even the typical lab I expected - it was just a packet every two weeks you'd have to complete and turn in. They did get progressively harder, but they are very doable. Hands down easiest way to fill the science with lab requirement. The Air Pollution class itself was also great; yeah the material is boring but NO ONE should complain because Turco starts from the bottom up, so he doesn't expect you to know much. He knows it's a GE class with no science majors in it so he's very generous, especially with the grades. I got a 7/10 on one of the quizzes, and with the curve I ended up getting 9.5/10. Isn't that awesome? Turco would also perform some experiments (that end up on the midterm/quizzes/final!) and 90% involved blowing up condoms with some kind of gas. He's so funny - he's like the grandfather you never had. All in all, the class was totally worth it. Just do the basic amount of work and studying and you'll do fine. Plus, don't even bother buying the textbook. Everything you need to know are in his lecture slides. Perfect way to study.

AOS2 was an easy A class but extremely boring. Although Turco tries to make it interesting, it is hard to find interest in air particles and you will hate going to this class. You really dont need to go except he has 5 pop quizes that he usually announces in the beginning of class anyway. All you need to do is study very hard the night before the midterm and final by memorizing the slides which are online and you'll be fine. He adds many points to everyone's midterm and final grades, so if you think the test is hard you really shouldn't worry. I didnt take the lab portion but there were only a few assignments anyway. If you can get Dustin Pittman as your TA he is really good and teaches the material better than Turco does. Just make sure you participate if you have Pittman because he does get a little pissy when no one participates. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSION FOR THE MIDTERM AND FINAL. The TAs give you all the answers.

If you're looking for an easy GE, this is it. Professor Turco's a very kind professor and he has a silly sense of humor, but class does get a little slow sometimes. If you put in a reasonable amount of effort, you should ace this class. Midterms and finals are multiple choice and true/false, and when the class does badly, he always adds points to everyone's scores. Definitely recommend this class!

-5 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final (all multiple choice/true and false)
-change grades to B-average curve
-textbook not necessary because all the information is on the slides he posts online
-lecture is somewhat hard to sit through
-midterm and final are fair, but does require a good amount of looking over slides
-would recommend as a GE, simple labs too

If you would have asked me before i got the grade in this class, i would have told everyone to never take this class. First, Air Pollution was extremely boring. Professor Turco is a pretty boring lecturer too so all and all it made for a majority of the class sleeping in his class every lecture. Furthermore, basically everything you need to know is in the slides so going to lecture can be kind of pointless, but you pretty much have to go to lecture because he give pop quizzes and there are no make-ups. Needless to say, my TA was really good, but i heard the other TA could barely speak english and most people didn't grasp any of the concepts. Also, the midterm and final were really hard and tricky even though i studied a lot for that class.

Despite everything i just said- I got an A in the class. I have no idea how, but i did. So i don't know if every quarter has an extremely high curve, but if it does, maybe someone might consider taking this class. I, though, think that it was too much effort for a GE.

I thought this class was great. The material is really interesting and Prof. Turco is a good lecturer, I mean I actually paid attention! Sections and the TA's notes were also really helpful. Don't be worried about the quizzes and the midterm and final are fair. And my favorite part was Demo man, Turco is pretty funny. This class is definitely a good choice for a GE.
