All Ratings and Reviews for Panagiotis D Christofides
if you go to lectures.. you'll do fine in the class. the homework and exams are based on lectures and he won't test you on anything that isn't in your notes. the material isn't that difficult and even if you don't understand it all, you get pages of cheat sheets for the test.
It's very important to go to class. His tests are based only on his lecture notes not the book. Make sure you sit in front of the class so you won't miss anything important and that you actually understand the material he's talking about. Do the homework and pay careful attention to the lecture and you will earn your A.
I don't know why so many students feel his lectures are too difficult to understand. When I took his class, he spent most of the time pausing and asking us to think about what we had just learned before moving on. His main focus was our understanding of the material. Very nice guy. Highly recommend him.
He has his midterms whenever he goes out of town. The number of midterms depends on the number of trips. He was gone for the week before the final and was out of contact until the middle of the test (skipping his own office hours over the weekend). Nice guy I guess, but he does't really care.
It started off well, but as the material gets more advanced, his lecture becomes nonsensical. Stir up some humour occassionally, lenient grader (cheat sheet allowed), average for midterm was 80%!. Flexible in terms of handing in homework. Just the lectures that's hard to understand.
Taking a class with Christofides is an excersize in self-learning. He is difficult to follow in class, and it is best to just do the homework and teach yourself the material. If the TA is good, make sure to go to discussion, as this may be the only lecture worth going to.
