Really funny and nice guy, the most helpful teacher on campus and 50% of the grade are homework and attendance. Gives review sessions before tests which are really helpful through the test are not easy to say. Weekly graded homework which may take some time through, however it is easy to get 100% on that and it is like half of your grade. Definity 5/5 class and would gladly take again.

I’m really bad at chemistry so I had to actually put in a lot of effort but he was really accommodating and had a lot of office hours. He gave us his google number so we could text him questions and usually answered quickly. I thought the midterms were hard but considering the median was like 90-95 maybe that was like a skill issue on my part. Before every midterm he gave us practice problems from the book that were representative of the midterm. The final had a lot of questions that were like totally copied from the midterms so If you understood the mistakes you made on the midterm, you were good. I got a 90 on midterm 1 and an 88 on midterm 2. Idk what I got on the final but considering I got an A then probably 93+. Homework was also a guaranteed 100.

this was an 8 am lecture and I was always dead when I arrived. But he’s actually really engaging and energetic. Participation was a big part of our grade but since I-clicker didn’t work all quarter, you pretty much got away with not going to lecture. But he said some important stuff in lecture and with like drawing the axis, he did it differently than the book so basically If you studied from the book and didn’t go to lecture you would have gotten those questions wrong. He also had review sessions where he went over everything or like mostly everything and those were super helpful.

He’s a really good teacher but like chemistry sucks and this class is hard.

HOLY SHIT, if you want a funny, unregulated, talks in 3rd person, cares about students and their lives and will show up to your sports games like the dad you always wanted, then take Deifel. Want to focus more on learning content than worrying about tests that will completely bomb your grade? Take Deifel. Scared you'll somehow fail even just the homework somehow? Good news you can't since Deifel sets the homework problems to each have multiple tries and even gives explanations on how to work through it when you get it wrong, making getting 100% on assignments physically impossible. Take Deifel. Scared of your first midterms and finals? Tough luck, man gives all the resources necessary, from practice exams to tons of outside sources. Take Deifel. Even if the class is early Deifel like everyone else is tired, yet he still makes the effort to bring in as much energy as possible to the class of 200+. Take Deifel. And oh boy, if you want to learn more, this is the best person to go to as he is just beaming with extra knowledge that's fun to learn and fun for him to teach. Take Deifel. He is enthusiastic, great at teaching, gives the flipping slides out, funny magic man speaks funny magic words. TAKE DEIFEL NOW.

he doesn't really explain stuff that well and expects you to learn it before class but he's nice and made half the grade going to discussion and doing homework so the class is easy.

He was very kind throughout the quarter, especially for an 8 AM to consistently bring that energy to the course was really nice, it really would wake you up, get you going, and excited almost for the subject. Coming from a person who never really liked chemistry at all and saw it as something to get over, it was really interesting to have a teacher really have you engage in the lecture. Even though lectures were not recorded, it still shocked me how many people went to the lectures, but also it didn't because he was so enthusiastic. His office hours would be so incredibly helpful, and he would be willing to answer any question you had, give you personal practice problems, or advice on this class, or any class, or any club for that matter. Discussions were super helpful and the worksheets especially for exams, but he would always let you know basically what to expect, there were no surprises. Homework could be a lot but it wasn't too bad in the long run and he was pretty nice about it. Highly recommend!

Engaging, interesting lecturer, and awesome to talk to. Tests are not too difficult and are similar in level to homework. Tends to go off-topic during lectures and it is sometimes unclear what will actually be tested on, but in his office hours he is much more helpful in answering questions, doing hands-on problems, and being clear on what students should/shouldn't know to pass the class.

Professor Nicholas Diefel is an excellent teacher, always happy to help, and has very engaging lectures. He gives a lot of, and I mean, A LOT of, opportunities to meet up and catch up with the materials. The homework was sometimes challenging, but it was a great opportunity to raise your grade. Going to his office hours is a must - very helpful and clarifying (also pretty chill).

Deifel is a solid teacher but everyone’s overrating him like crazy. It was only his first quarter and he definitely had his flaws such as going off topic often, which made it pretty difficult to focus. I do admire his energy and his ability to make jokes on such a boring subject, which is why I would recommend him.

Deifel is super engaging in lecture and makes himself available for office hours and review sessions multiple times a week for many hours, so there is always time to meet with or message him if you are ever confused. There was quite a bit of reading and homework but it was manageable enough, and individual problems can be retaken on the homework until a 100% is achieved (and homework is worth 25% of the grade, so this is advisable). His lectures can be a little confusing if you did not do the related textbook readings, but with the homework and lectures and some self-study, the readings are not necessary to do well on exams. Deifel is also super personable and supportive of his students (he encourages them to go to sports games with him, especially if another one of his students is playing in one, and tries very hard to remember all the names of his students). Overall, this was my favorite class of fall quarter and I would definitely take other classes with Deifel.
