The readings for Psychobio are a bit daunting, but if you can keep up with them you should do just fine. The textbook is well written and pretty funny so reading it is not a terrible chore. I had lectures at eight o'clock so I rarely made it, or if I did I was not conscious and I amde out with an "A-." It isn't a hard course if you are willing and able to learn from the book.
I agree with the comments posted by other students. The readings seem intimidating (and a lot!) but you will be fine if you go to lectures and read the chapter. Her lectures are not so bad, though. It's not an easy A but here is no problem getting it if you read the textbook. There will be nothing surprising you in the exams. They're all in the book.
i recommend this class to anyone with a good memory looking for an easy a. don't worry about having to get up for an 8 am lecture, because all you need is the book. seriously, there's no point in the professor showing up to teach, because everything she talks about is explained much more clearly in the text, with the additional details she will expect you to know for the tests. she doesn't seem to care about her students learning, so if you actually like the material and want to go deeper into it, then you will have to do that on your own. otherwise, by all means take the class and go to it twice - midterm and final. those are the only class periods you need to pull a solid a.
The only way to survive in this class is by reading the entire chapters and studying with the online and cd quizzes. Dont go to lecture, its valuable sleeping time. You wont get much out of it anyways, just read the book!
the first half of the class i went to class everyday because i had no idea what the midterm would be like. turns out, she uses questions from the book, so if you just read the chapters and do the cd-rom and online quizes, you will ace the midterm. after the first midterm, i went to class ONCE and got an A+ in the class. so really, you dont need to go. plus she lectures as if shes teaching junior high students. i took it at 8am and half of whoever went was asleep. goodluck! lectures may be boring, but the material is interesting and the tests are easy.
I found this class to be pretty hard because there were so many details that it was impossible to be completely prepared for the exams. The first half of the quarter was really boring just getting down the basics of the brain but the second half, when we got into behavior, it was a lot more interesting. There really was no point in going to class unless you wanted to take a nap...keep up with the reading and you will get at least an A or B.
dont go to class! theres no point. if you read the book ull be fine. also the cd-rom and website r very helpful. read, take the practice quizzes, and review the day before the midterm and final and theres no reason u shouldnt get an A.
Boring professor who teaches by reading off powerpoints that she puts online. I stopped attending lecture and got an A- on the midterm, which is supposed to be exactly like the final. Just read the book and her notes and study off of the stuff that the lecture and book both mention. That pretty much covers the course. It's a lot of material, but not too difficult a class. It's graded on the midterm and final and there's no section, which is good.
Fascinating subject matter, dry professor that can't excite students about what she's teaching. It's actually pretty sad. Her lectures are very well organized (overheads + available online), but her teaching style is not very efficient. After 2 lectures I gave up and didn't attend anymore. I learnt everything from the book (which is so awesome that you definitely want to keep it for life) and still got an A. This class fulfilled my GE requirements.
BORING. She talks in the most monotone voice ever. There is no reason to go to class because you will just fall asleep. The material would be interesting, but she is so boring that it is hard. The class is basically two midterms with 60 multiple choice questions, but don't let that fool you into thinking it is easy. There is A LOT to memorize and so random and trickly questions.
