This course was a great starting experience to begin my education at UCLA. I took this course during the Freshman Summer Program and it allowed me to improve my writing in various areas. Professor Poston assist you into becoming a college level writing.

COVID EDITION****
Poston is a fair teacher considering she is a beginning English teacher. She tries to be tough to "prepare" you for professors at UCLA. I had poston with FSP. Overall if you're a decent writer you won't necessarily learn much except how to cater to what she likes in writing. She requires a book named Deep survival which I got an electronic version. She also suggest you get a stylebook but it's not necessary if you know the basics of MLA and APA. Even then you can look it up online. She makes you write three essays. The first essay is a creative essay, the next are research-related essays. She has these things called gradebreakers that you absolutely cannot do. if she sees them in your writing she will literally knock you down a grade.
COVID part:
she gives live test and she gives you like one to two minutes for each question. It's a bit weird considering you have to cater to how she likes you to write while thinking of the answers. She also says if you don't have your camera on its "suspicious." I get that but with COVID she should understand that not everyone has appropriate housing situations. She also sometimes calls you out during class indirectly which can be a bit irritating. She will also get mad if you ask her something she already said which is understandable but again not everyone has stable wifi situations or a quiet home. She will scold you if you ask a question that may seem confusing to you but clear to her. She's the type to be like, there is such thing as dumb questions.

Overall shes ok. She allows extensions. Literally just friend her and she will like you.
