Selling the textbook Sur le Vif for French 4 and 5, which is a required textbook for these two classes. The book is in very good condition with no marks. Buy this used one and purchase the code separately on their website(the code is also required, which costs like 100 bucks), and you can still save money by not purchasing the 200-dollar bundle from UCLA store.

Laurence is incredible! She is an extremely effective teacher that left me truly able to speak french fluidly and confidently. When I first got to class (3 days late) I was overwhelmed by the amount of homework, a few workbook grammar assignments and a small composition but you slowly get used to it. The frequent compositions really help improve your writing. We watched a few cool films in class as well as studied big themes such as politics, family, education.

Laurence is extremely punctual and easy to communicate with. She answers emails immediately. There are 3 compositions and 1 optional one... if you take time and apply what she discussed in class you will get an A-/A. There are 3 midterms which are very simple (a few grammar sets, a vocab section and a composition). The final was a little more challenging because there was so much writing on it! 4 short answers and one long composition along with grammar and vocab.

Overall Laurence ROCKS! Take her if you can. I got an A.

She is one of the sweetest, most caring, and most understanding people out there. On top of that, she's funny and is a highly effective professor. You do get homework every night, but they're usually short, simple grammar assignments from the work book. Otherwise, it's a composition or a 100-200 word response to a question. Her tests are easy, given that you actually study. If you do the homework, talk in class, and know your grammar, you will get an A. Plus, there are extra credit opportunities (watching movies and writing a paragraph about them).

The most wonderful teacher I've had at UCLA. She puts all other teachers to shame. She's very sweet, caring, and energetic. She motivated me and made me want to learn the material. I took french 4 with her a year ago, and am still in amazement of that class. Her english is just fine, she doesn't put anyone fact she's great an encouraging students to do better. There's something refreshing about her that I can't quite describe in words...all I know is that I consider myself lucky to have had a class with her and I highly HIGHLY recommend her to everyone.

Laurence is a great teacher!!! I came into French 4 dreading the class because my French 3 experience wasn't so great. After the first couple of classes, I knew that I would like this class. She makes class interesting and fun and explains everything really clearly. She's incredibly understanding when it comes to turning in assignments late; she understands that you have a life outside of her class. I highly recommend her :o)

Laurence is an awesome prof, she has a sense of humor that makes her so fun to interact with in class. Although the French lecturers and TAs seem to have a pretty structured format for teaching the classes, she really teaches the same old material incredibly effectively. I especially like the way she handles compositions, her corrections are really helpful and I felt I was actually learning something from writing them. She's not afraid to make fun of herself in class, and she's sooo understanding about late work/scheduling conflicts, etc. She's a fair grader, lively lecturer, adorable in general. I'm so stoked to be taking French 5 with her next quarter, and I know a few others in my class hope to do the same.
