The class is fantastic, and the professor is even better! She incorporates her real life experiences when teaching the language, as well as gives you the feeling of actually experiencing a different culture. She made us participate a ton, but that strengthened the experience. Also wanted to mention that she cares about the effort you put into the class, regardless of whether you answer things perfectly or not. If show up, and at the very least try to learn the language, you will 100% succeed.
Overall loved this class and learned so much from it. She is a very passionate professor who genuinely loves what she teaches and wants the best for her students.
I am selling the coursereader that is already annotated for $25.

I found this class to be very stressful. Do not take if you have a hard time with participation, as it as required in every single class. I didn't like her teaching methods as I found them to be not only stressful, but potentially embarrassing as well. This was one of the most difficult and unpleasant experiences I've ever had with a college class. I actually found myself losing hair because of the stress of this class. While I liked the professor as a person, this class just wasn't a good fit for me. I really don't understand the positive reviews.
I really loved taking this class with Georgiana. I found it to be a very interesting topic and being taught about the Soviet Union by someone who lived through it was fascinating. Georgiana has a wide range of attitudes during class; sometimes she's just funny and chill and other times she aggressively calls on students and berates them for not knowing answers. Her tests were not all that challenging and she did provide lots of extra credit.
I have the course reader, please call/text me at ********** if you want it. I'm willing to give it away for free.
Georgiana is a very sweet lady. Sometimes goes on tangents about her home country. Watch a lot of movies in this class. Easy GE.
First off, the professor is adorable and super sweet. I love listening to her lectures. But that’s not why I am here... the ta is a total jack (petkovski). He not only rolls his eyes at the professor when she is confused about some technology problem(on zoom,) but he is arrogant and grades insanely harsh. If you ever take this class and have him as a ta, drop it immediately. He makes this supposedly easy ge a total nightmare.
Given I took this class during the pandemic online, I thought she was so lovely. She is genuinely interested in helping her students. She does require you to learn each lesson, but she was very understanding of this year and did not give us a midterm or final. Participation was what we were graded off of. I recommend taking this course as you will get close with your classmates and actually learn a new language!
As someone who had 0 knowledge of East and Central European history, this class definitely required more work from me relative to my peers. I had to spend hours memorizing information for weekly quizzes but the TA graded pretty leniently. By the end, I learned a ton and the final was pretty easy because you spend so much time memorizing information throughout the weeks. Prof and TA also gave study guides so the class so pretty manageable, especially if you have background info!
I loved this class so much. Professor Galateanu really cares about her students and the literature that she teaches. I took this class remotely, so I don’t know what it might be like in person, but she was incredibly generous with grading. Participation was weekly discussion posts on the readings, and there were 2-3 papers (final included). She really just wants to see you engage with the readings and make a genuine effort.
Selling the course reader for 10. She does not change the contents. **********. On the hill welcome.
