Quarter: Fall 2019
Grade: A

I ended up really enjoying this class. I learned so much from Professor Johnson and she was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. The group projects were also pretty engaging and as long as you showed up and put good work in you will do well in the class.

Take this class! Take Professor Gaye Johnson! I absolutely loved this class! I learned so much, but Professor Johnson teaches in a way that it is not burdensome to learn. It was my favorite class during my first fall quarter. Our grades were predominantly determined by a group project in which we were helping different community organizations during our discussion sections. These projects also made the class so much better. Through these projects, we were implementing what we were learning in class to better the lives of many of our local minorities. Overall, Professor Gaye Johnson is one of the most caring professors I have met. She walks into class with the biggest smile on her face, and greets us as if it is a huge family reunion. I would definitely take any class with her! ! !

Also, she cares about problems going on in the world and is very passionate about making a difference and inspiring her students to raise their voices and take action.

Having this be one of my first classes coming to UCLA I can say that it has been my favorite. Their is a group project that is due at the end of the quarter spaced out very fairly and will in some way help our surrounding community (LA area). For me we were in charge of updating a website made for a program that dealt with the friends and families of victims from homicides. Many of us went to the organization and filmed actual testimony's. Professor Johnson as a whole is an amazing human being she is literally the sweetest and you can tell she cares for her students/is passionate about her profession. I would definitely recommend this class.

I really enjoyed this class! There were a few times that class got cancelled because of emergencies (the fires, protesting, etc.) and some points in the class where we weren’t really sure what we should expect next, but the professor is extremely engaging and loves to hear from students!
