i personally don't recommend taking her class. first off, she is so unorganized and doesn't follow her syllabus. instead she sends everyone in the class countless e-mails regarding what assignments are due. going to class is seriously pointless because everything you learn throughout the quarter could be learned in a week. there is a lot of busy work and very little reading. although, that may sound appealing, going to class was dreadful. also she is not an approachable teacher and shares personal anecdotes that no one cares about. for example, one time in class she made each of us tell a short story about our teeth(really stupid). there are 3 papers that are 3 pages in length, weekly journals, homework that is turned in twice throughout the quarter(super easy), 1 major presentation, and a take home(about the assigned readings) and in class midterm(grammar). i really didn't like her style of teaching or grading. it was not an enjoyable experience for me and i really feel it was a waste of time.

If you are a native speaker and are looking for a Spanish class to take this is the one. Professors Chuquin posesses one of the kindest personalities you will ever encounter. She is a real breath of fresh air when it comes to teaching. I found the fact that she is one of the the few native Spanish speakers in the department EXTREMELY alarming...you'd think that vbeing in the hub that is Los Angeles there would be many native Spanish speakers but that's besides the point. She tends to not follow her syllabus and her homework assignments can be nebulous at times but don't let that fool you. She is an excellent professor, an excellent grader, and an extraordinary person. I'd recommentd her in a second!
