This is not an easy A class. If you study and understand the lecture and problems given you will get an A. I am not Asian and my class rank was 1st on one Midterm and 1st on the Final. So it very doable to get an A.

You don't need the book at all, because she posts the question and answers online. I never bought and never read the book.

Pay close attention to problems she solves on the board before a midterm or exam, because those are very similar to the test type problems. Also, she is a little slow with technology so be patient. Good Luck
