She is very willing to meet with you outside of class, but I would say I did not learn as much as I wanted to. We read three books and wrote three essays. I wish it was more challenging.

Giuliano is a very nice professor and she is always willing to meet with students for office hours. However, I felt like her grading was really erratic. For example, she would say that someone's rough draft was really good and then give that same person a low grade on their final draft.. and vice versa. Other times she criticized styles of writing then later in the quarter would demand the class to imitate that same style she criticized. I received a B+ on every single paper even though I went to her office hours regularly and always followed the advice she gave me on my rough drafts. She's just hard to please. Looking back, I learned almost nothing in her class and I would not take her again.

She's really nice! However, you have to suck up to her and do everything EXACTLY THE WAY SHE WANTS IT. I REPEAT, DO EVERYTHING HER WAY.

Easy A that way. No use being stubborn in this class. She really does enjoy "good" papers.

The class is based off of three papers, participation, and a writing log which is basically ten casual pages of whatever floats to your mind (really easy, no stress - meant to help you write).

For the papers, make sure you go see her. She actually holds office hours! She'll spend a good twenty minutes with you. SOAK IT ALL IT. and listen to her in class. It helps to understand her viewpoint.

Basically, if you don't write with her perspective then you're screwed.

But if you have a good paper, then she prints copies of it and anonymously shares it with the class and makes everybody compliment it lol.

and we read Kite Runner, Stop Time, and Like Water for Chocolate. Our main topic is Family Dynamics, although not really since our papers don't have to be about that.

I did not like Dr. Giuliano. She is one of those teachers that don't really like you if you don't regurgitate her ideas back at her. I tried to explain why a sentence in class seemed odd to me and she pretty much called me stupid saying that i couldn't understand how intelligent the sentence was. She wouldn't even take the time or put in any effort in understanding and considering other peoples views. It seems like a lot of English teachers are like this. I wouldn't take her class.

Professor Giuliano is a great professor! I do think however that she is a tough grader.

I guess she just has many different ideas about English than what you have been previously taught before. I did however learn so much in her class about improving my writing.

The only thing I did not like about her is how she is not always available.
But besides that she is great!
The whole class was based on reading 3 books and writing 3 essays on those books. The readings were pretty simple and we discussed them in class which made them easier to understand. She is a very nice and caring person.

Great class, tough grades!

I really enjoyed Eng Comp 3 with Dr. Giuliano. She's really cares about her students and takes time to learn your names. She's super nice and easy to talk to. The theme of her lecture was "Family Dynamics" and we read really good books. Fall quarter my session read Stop Time by Frank Conroy, Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, and Kite Runner by Hosseini. As long as you do the readings and participate in class, you'll get her to have a good image of you. She makes you write 10 journal logs throughout the 10 weeks you're with her, and 3 papers. For each paper you have to turn in a rough draft, but Dr. Guiliano reads & writes good comments on them. She even offers one on one sort of appointments you can sign up for before you turn in your paper. If you put in the work, I think the class isn't bad at all.
