I don't have much of an interest in art history, but this was the only GE that fit in my schedule.
The class was pretty straightforward. I didn't feel like I learned anything in lecture since the lectures were very dry and seemed pretty disorganized. The slides only consisted of pictures with absolutely zero words or context. I get it, it's an Art History course, but the pictures literally had just slides on it. Reviewing them wasn't helpful at all.
I bought the required reading material but never read it; I only brought it to discussion when our TA asked us to. I didn't read any of the assigned reading all quarter and I managed just fine.
I learned the most in discussion. My TA Rachel was super nice and seemed like she really cared about how we learned and how we did. She gave us handouts, provided resources, and went over the material from lecture. She helped us get a headstart on our final paper and had a quarter plan to keep us on track with it, which I didn't like the idea of at first but knowing me and my tendency to procrastinate, I really needed it, and it proved to be super helpful!
The midterm was really manageable. He gave essay questions beforehand and picked from those which would be on the midterm. My TA helped us outline answers to some of the questions. You can prepare really well and get a good grade if you just outline the essay questions beforehand.
Final paper was manageable. We had to visit the Getty and take a picture with the piece we chose to write on. It was only 3-4 pages. I wrote it the night before and got an A on it so do with that what you will.
Overall, pretty easy GE. Probably would've liked it more if I liked art history, but I recommend taking it if you're just looking for something easy.
