So this is one of the university apartments. The cool thing about the apartment is that you get your OWN room for $825/month. But there are a lot of not-so-cool things. The biggest problem is that because they are owned by UCLA, you really can only live in them for a year. These apartments usually are taken the first day of signups by 10:30 or 11 am. Almost all of the people who get in are athletes or work for housing, so the likelihood of getting one is very small. Unless you're an athlete or work for housing, you can only rent them through your junior year. So pretty much everyone is a junior. Also because they're owned by UCLA, there are a larger number of rules than you might find in other places including quiet hours. Unfortunately, no one pays attention to quiet hours and the cops have had to come break up parties about 10 times already. The walls are pretty thin and the acoustics of the area make you able to hear EVERYTHING that is going on in the courtyard and the street, especially during parties and street cleaning/garbage collecting. Neighbors are super loud and annoying, as one neighbor has pulled the fire alarm multiple times because there was smoke in their kitchen.

Speaking of kitchens, you get a decent sized one but no dishwasher! Which is really not fun. There are either one or two bathrooms depending on your unit, and there is a laundry facility in the basement. However, twice it has been flooded and not dealt with by maintenance in a succinct manner. Another huge problem is that there is no elevator, only tons of stairs, and the maintenance people wet them down a couple times a month and forget to leave out signs that the stairs in your stairwell are wet, so people constantly slip. I almost twisted my ankle falling down the stairs, but housing did NOTHING about getting maintenance to stop doing that.

Another huge problem is the dilapidation of the building (it's old, no a/c, things constantly fall apart) and the SLOWWWWWWWWW maintenance response time. UCLA's maintenance line never picks up when you call them, and they pretend they never received your messages. We had a gas leak and they took two days to respond. Seriously.

I wouldn't live here again even though the rent is cheap for all the space you get. Maintenance is horrible and the upkeep of the apartments isn't very nice. Just live somewhere else.
